East Worthing residents criticise seafront

There is a strong sense that the area is a dumping ground and not treated in the same way as West Worthing.

In a letter to the Herald, J Allison, of Church Walk, Worthing, said: “We now have a dilapidated rotunda by Windsor Road neglected for many years, no money spent on its upkeep or regular cleaning.

“East Worthing also missed out on the upmarket palm trees that the rest of Worthing beach had.

“Increasing footfall will never happen from the east as all parking meters finish at Beach House Park and all day parking on the streets does not exist.”

Linda Jackson, 52, of Navarino Road, said: “I think it is disgusting down here and I do not see why we cannot have the nice clean beaches that people in West Worthing in particular enjoy.

“It seems as if we are forgotten about and I think that is really wrong.

“How can two places so near to one another be so different in terms of quality and aesthetic appearance.”

Paul Webb, 69, of Ham Road, said: “I think the problem is that we do not get any visitors to this part of Worthing as everyone is interested in the town centre of further down the beach by Goring.

“Maybe if a bit more money was spent on East Worthing it would improve the situation but until then nothing will change.”
