Eastbourne emergency services respond to two incidents

Emergency services in Eastbourne responded to two incidents on the weekend including a report of a missing person.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said, “At around 5.30pm on April 17, Birling Gap, Newhaven and Eastbourne Coastguard rescue teams, the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lydd, Eastbourne RNLI lifeboat, Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service were sent to an incident at Beachy Head, East Sussex.”

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said a body was recovered by Coastguard and RNLI crews and there were no suspicious circumstances.

In regards to the second incident a spokesperson for the Coastguard said, “At just after 8.40pm on April 17, Eastbourne, Birling Gap and Newhaven Coastguard rescue teams, two RNLI lifeboats from Eastbourne and the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lydd were sent to a search at Beachy Head. A thorough search was conducted with nothing found.”

A spokesperson for Eastbourne RNLI said the second incident was a search for a missing person.
