And families and children are quickly getting into the spirit as Caffe Verdi, the collection point, is already handing out eggs and certificates for completed egg collection cards.

The 21 businesses taking part hope many families will collect their stickers and enter the £100 prize draw.

John Quilter, chairman of Midhurst Town Team, which is supporting the event, said: “Despite the gloomy economic situation and the chilly weather, our community is turning out in force. We want to make our town centre a place for more than just shopping and this initiative from the traders is certainly helping to do this. We really do appreciate the support our residents are giving to our traders which is helping us to maintain our economy and keeping the number of vacant shops well below most other market towns”

The Easter event runs through to April 14 and the idea is that once a card is complete, it can be swapped for an Easter egg at Caffe Verdi. If the questions have been answered, the card is placed in the draw.

The prize winner will be announced on April 19.
