'El Matador' targets Littlehampton fund-raiser

A special game of arrows will target a charity total to be proud of, and pit the people of Littlehampton against the professionals.

The Littlehampton Four Nations Pro Darts Challenge will see the top quartet visit the town for an evening of fund-raising and competition at the Coco Lounge, Clifton Road, on Wednesday (March 17).

Holland's Jelle "El Matador" Klaasen, who in 2006 became the youngest world champion ever at the tender age of 21 years and 90 days and Robert "The Thorn" Thornton, who won the World Masters Championship in 2007, from Scotland will both be taking part.

They will be joined by Paul "The Asset" Nicholson, from Australia, who won this year's Players Championship, and Welsh Mark "Webby" Webster, world champion in 2008.

The four massive names will play against members of the audience, before taking on each other for the final showdown of the night.

'Bigger than ever'

The tournament will raise funds for Jamie's Wish, a charity that works with children living with terminal disease, set up in memory of Jamie Buckfield, from Littlehampton, who died in 2007, aged 20, from a brain tumour.

Organiser James Stephenson, of the Littlehampton Darts Organisation, said the night was for the people of the town.

"Darts is a hugely entertaining sport with many characters in the game, and has now taken over snooker in terms of popularity and media coverage.

"It's now bigger than it ever was in the 80s. "The image of the game has been completely cleaned up, with alcohol being completely banned."

He added that BBC radio presenter, and Worthing Herald columnist, Ian Hart would conduct a charity auction on the night.
