Elderly woman's handbag stolen in Hastings public toilets

A thief snatched a handbag from an elderly woman in a public toilet in Hastings with police appealing for witnesses.

The victim, a 74-year-old local woman, withdrew £125 in cash from Nationwide building society in Wellington Place before entering the conveniences in nearby Harold Place, where her bag was snatched from behind her.

The incident occurred just inside the entrance to the building at about 9.30am on Monday, July 11.

The victim, who was not able to provide a description of the suspect other than being a younger woman, was unhurt.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time is asked to contact [email protected] or call 101, quoting serial 334 of 11/07.
