Election results: Adur District Council
Labour took St Mary’s and Eastbrook and held onto Cokeham, while UKIP gained two seats.
The big shock of the day was UKIP’s scalp of Tory cabinet member for regeneration Pat Beresford in Churchill ward.

Hide AdLabour’s Irene Reed said: “We have made tremendous gains and we are going to form the first proper opposition for some time to the Tories, so we are really delighted.”
Sami Zeglam, the youngest member of Adur Labour, at 24, joined ex-London borough councillor Les Alden in winning seats for the party, with its presence on the council now trebled.
UKIP, which coupled a gain in Churchill with victory in Widewater, made ‘good progress’, according to county councillor Mike Glennon.
“Churchill has been our greatest joy of the day,” he added.
Conservative deputy leader Angus Dunn, who held Hillside, said the outcome was ‘disappointing’ but said votes ‘held up well in some places’ and increased in others.

Hide AdIn Shoreham Beach, Independents again reigned supreme, with Joss Loader a comfortable victor.
She said: “It proves that having an independent voice is appealing at a time when people are disaffected with party politics.”
Overall turnout was just over 33 per cent.
Most Lancing Parish Council results are yet to be declared.
