The pictures, taken on Sunday, January 18, show the container at the base of the cliff near the shore at Cow Gap.
The images of the container were submitted after a report that ‘thousands of bags of chips’ had also washed up near Beachy Head amid efforts to clean up shipping container debris.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced on Friday, January 16, that Newhaven Coastguard Rescue Team had been sent to three shipping containers reported ashore at Seaford on January 13, and said a container off Littlehampton had been recovered by a contracted salvage vessel, along with debris off Beachy Head. The MCA said containers ashore at Selsey, Eastbourne, Newhaven, Rustington, Rottingdean and Beachy Head were being ‘monitored’.
