East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at 1.30pm on Thursday (December 18), amid ‘reports of collapsed scaffolding’ in First Avenue.
Sussex Police confirmed it ‘attended to support the fire service’ at the scene – where scaffolding fell on top of cars.
A fire service statement read: “One fire engine from Preston Circus was in attendance. Crews attended for scene safety, liaising with the police and the area was cordoned off.
“There were no reports of any injuries.
“Crews left the scene by 3.16pm, handing over to the main building contractor.”
AA Traffic News reported that the road was partially blocked – both ways between A259 Kingsway and B2066 Church Road.
This road closure remained in place on Friday – with photos and video showing a clear-up operation in full swing.
They also show that multiple cars were left badly damaged by the collapsed scaffolding – and have been left on the road.
