Eastbourne: South East Water repairs leak near Hampden Park level crossing

South East Water said it has completed work to repair a leak in Eastbourne.

A leak in Brassey Avenue meant the road had to be closed at the Hampden Park level crossing on Thursday, January 8.

South East Water said it has now repaired the leak.

Resident Sarah Pryke, who works locally, said the road reopened around 8.20am today (January 13).

South East Water Distribution Manager Ben Hewes said: "We are sorry to customers in the Hampden Park area of Eastbourne who may have been impacted following a burst water main.

"We located the leak close to the railway line on Thursday, 8 January. We were able to minimise the impact to a small number of properties in Brassey Avenue while we carried out the repair work, resulting in lower pressure for some customers.

"The repair work was completed on Friday night, but due to a number of additional complications and an increase in leaks across our network in Sussex, we were unable to complete the work to return the area to its original condition over the weekend.

"This work was completed today (Monday) and we thank customers for their patience while we carried out this repair."
