Flooding incident caused closure of West Sussex village

Fire crews helped to deal with a flooding incident in Bramber, West Sussex.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it was first alerted at 8.20am, on Friday (January 9).

The fire service said it was ‘caused by a burst water main’, at a property in The Street, Bramber.

“Joint Fire Control mobilised one fire engine to the scene,” a fire service spokesperson said.

“Upon arrival the crew pumped water from the property.

“The crew left the scene at 12.42pm.”

Compass Travel diverted service 100 buses.

“We have been informed that Bramber village is closed due to flooding,” a post on X (formerly Twitter) read.

"Buses will be diverting via Steyning Bypass in both directions until the road reopens. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause in this event out of our control.”

AA Traffic News reported that The Street was closed ‘due to flooding and fire department activity’ – both ways between A283 / Clays Hill (Steyning Bypass) and High Street / river bridge (Upper Beeding). Traffic was said to be ‘coping well’.

Sussex Traffic Watch added: “Bramber, near Steyning, is closed to traffic [due to a] fire service incident. There is flooding in buildings.”
