Photos and video show train recovery in Lewes: cranes seen lifting derailed carriage in Sussex

Photos showing recovery work at the site of the train derailment near Lewes have been sent to this newspaper today (Thursday, August 20).

The images and video show cranes lifting one of the carriages that derailed a week ago.

Three carriages of Train 1F34, the Southern 2.24pm London Victoria to Eastbourne passenger service, came off the track at around 3.54pm on Thursday, August 13.

An interim report by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB), published on Wednesday, August 19, said CCTV images from before the incident show a ‘track geometry irregularity’ on the immediate approach to the point of derailment.

The RAIB says its investigation is ongoing and aims to identify the sequence of events leading up to the incident.
