The fire spread across approximately 4 hectares of land. Firefighters used a hose and beaters to battle the flames.

There were no reports of injuries.

People were warned to avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed due to drifting smoke during the fire.

n a later update, an East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "It's been such a busy week and our firefighters, fire officers, colleagues at Joint Fire Control and other teams have all done so much to try to keep everyone safe. Please help us by doing your bit when you're in the countryside - keeping it simple, that means no BBQs, no camp fires, no smoking!"

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has been asked for the cause of the blaze. More on this as we get it.
