RNLI in Eastbourne respond to 'mayday' call after vehicle's engine failed

Eastbourne RNLI were called to rescue vehicle on Sunday, November 1 after it called mayday.

A spokesperson said: “On November 1 at 2.21pm HM Coastguard requested the launch of Eastbourne RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat following a Mayday distress call from a fishing vessel which had suffered engine failure approximately one nautical mile South-West of Eastbourne Pier.

"With the wind pushing the casualty vessel towards land near Holywell Reef, there was a risk of the vessel grounding in the shallow water. After arrival on scene, the volunteer crew carried out a risk assessment before assisting with a tow of the casualty vessel back into Sovereign Harbour. For further information, contact HM Coastguard.”
