Section of road in St Leonards closed due to ‘major water leak’

A section of road in St Leonards has been closed due to a ‘major water leak’.

The partial closure of London Road comes after Southern Water reported a ‘supply interruption’ in the Maze Hill area this morning (May 30).

Southern Water’s website said that residents in the Maze Hill area of St Leonards were experiencing low water pressure.

An statement on the Southern Water website said: “We are aware of an issue in the area. Our team will be on site later tonight to investigate and carry out any repairs to resolve this matter.

“If a repair is required, this can sometimes take longer than we’d like, as we need to complete numerous checks and tests.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we thank you for your patience.”

Helena Dollimore, Labour (Co-op) MP for Hastings and Rye, stated she had spoken to the chief executive of Southern Water to share her concerns about the situation in London Road.

Posting on Facebook, she said: “I’ve spoken to the Chief Executive of Southern Water this morning to share my concerns about the situation in London Road where a major water leak has closed the road.

“I emphasised the disruption this can cause on a sunny Saturday in half term when many St Leonards businesses will be expecting high numbers of visitors to the town. I’ve asked Southern Water to do all they can to minimise any disruption. I’ll keep everyone updated when I hear more.

“And don’t get me started on the awful irony of a huge water leak in the same week we’ve all been asked to “use water wisely…”
