End of the road for Rustington school parking chaos?

PARKING mayhem around a Rustington school could become a thing of the past, with new restrictions coming into force.

For more than a decade, residents of the Parklands estate have complained to West Sussex County Council about the chaos caused by cars taking children to and from Summerlea Primary School, blocking driveways and obstructing junctions, particularly in the Windsor Drive area and on Worthing Road. Fears have also been voiced about the safety of pupils crossing roads.

An initial scheme drawn up by the county highways department to restrict parking in the area resulted in 13 objections, the main concern being that the problem would be moved onto other streets nearby, and that some residents and visitors to the school would be affected by the loss of on-street parking.

A revised scheme reducing the restrictions was opposed by just three of the original objectors and has now been approved by county council members of the Joint Eastern Arun Area Committee. Single and double yellow lines will prohibit parking in certain places at any time, and in others from 8-10am and 2-4pm.
