‘Enquiries ongoing’ after human bone found in Lewes

Police enquiries are ongoing after a human bone was found in Lewes.

Officers made the discovery in Brook Street, Lewes, on November 18, last year.

The human remains were located on a bank directly next to the St John sub Castro churchyard.

A spokesman for the force told the Express this week: “Our enquiries are ongoing as we seek to establish how these suspected human remains have come to be at this location, and most critically we need to understand the age of these remains.

“This is a complex process that is likely to take many weeks or months to establish with any certainty.”

Sussex Police has been working with partner agencies as part of its investigation.

It confirmed in November it was not treating the discovery as suspicious.
