Enterprising pupils rise to challenge

Children from Beckley Primary School rose to Richard Branson’s fiver challenge.

The enterprising pupils set up their own businesses and managed to turn £5 into £100’s.

Each group had to invent a company name, design a logo , decide what to invest in to sell and advertise their product.

The ideas were many and varied and ranged from selling cookies to washing cars, creating wooden items/plaques to cuddly toys.

Company names included: Temporary Tattoo Trio; Carefully Cleaned Cars; Popcorn Princesses and Teddies R Us

Every team made a profit, some of which they were allowed to keep but many chose to donate their profits to charity.

The new nationwide competition gives primary school children a loan of £5 and encourages them to do something enterprising to grow their money Thousands of pupils aged up to 11 are challenged to set up mini businesses under the scheme, created by Young Enterprise, in partnership with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Money.

There will be a national award ceremony in September with winners in various enterprising categories.

The children’s next enterprise will be their World War 1 themed summer fete on Saturday July 5 from 12 - 3pm.

All are welcome and thee will be a fancy dress competition based on clothes of 100 years ago.
