The historic tree, situated in a popular walking destination between Burgess Hill and Hassocks, fell during the harsh weather conditions.
The site, which recently saw access restricted for the creation of a new shared-use path linking Burgess Hill and Hassocks, was purchased by Burgess Hill Town Council in 1993.
This was for the benefit and enjoyment of local residents.
A spokesperson for the town council said: “Unfortunately, one of the ancient oak trees at Batchelors Farm was brought down during the storms over last weekend.
"The site is being monitored and further assessments of nearby trees are taking place.
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates to residents should any further action be required.
"Thank you for your patience and understanding while these assessments are carried out.”
