Farm Diary by Gwyn Jones

I don't know how to say this quite; but we could do with a drop rain! Incredible as it seems, the ground that we were struggling to travel on with cows and machinery less than a fortnight aglcould do with a drink.

The constant high temperatures with a light breeze has really sucked the moisture out of the ground and it is beginning to affect grass growth. The maize on the other hand is loving this weather, and is now a healthy dark green colour, rather than the pale yellow of a week ago.

We are cutting grass silage at Tillington this weekend. It is only 30 acres or so and the machinery will be finished before it really gets going; clamping some nice grass for young heifers next winter.
