The service was called out to rescue the 10 ducklings on a pond behind a house in Cowbeech, near Hailsham, after their mother disappeared overnight.

Rescuers using boats and nets were able to catch the ducklings.

Rescue co-ordinator Trevor Weeks said: "It was an absolute stroke of luck to catch nine of the 10 in one go. That rarely happens when catching them on water."

"The final duckling was much harder to catch but after a couple of attempts he was also captured and reunited with his brothers and sisters."

The ducklings were taken to the service's veterinary hospital at Whitesmith, East Sussex, where they will be reared along with over 50 others. Thirteen ducklings have already been reared and recently released too, according to Trevor.

Over the past month East Sussex WRAS has been called out to numerous rescue situations, including:

-Some orphaned ducklings at Haywards Heath
