COFFEE MORNING: The Church Coffee Morning last Saturday (February 13), was well attended and raised £277 for the Church Fabric Fund. A continuous slideshow of over nearly 200 photos of the Church and Church events over the last 100 years ran throughout the morning on the large screen in the Parker Hall.

Jill Copland was amazed to take £38 on the book stall and Ken Thomas on the raffle ran out of tickets! The cake stall was well supplied with a wide variety of home made cakes which were soon sold and the ladies in the kitchen were kept busy serving teas and coffees.

It was lovely to be joined by the Revd. Sally Epps, the leader of our new United Benefice and the Revd. Jean Manning who is helping us in our Parish, they both took the opportunity to speak to many of those present.

John Barnes gave a short talk about the history of the church and how we need to look after it for future generations. He appealed for volunteers to form a ‘Friends of Etchingham Church’ which will be about helping to protect the fabric of our Grade 1 starred village church.

A list of names was soon gathered and it is hoped to announce a launch party in the near future. If anyone is interested in being added to the list, please contact: [email protected].

VILLAGE WEBSITE: The village website has been running for a few years now, it was primarily provided by the Parish Council as a means of making council information available to village residents, but has always contained as much information as possible about the village and organisations. We want to gather your views on the site through a short survey, which only takes a couple of minutes to complete, on the website. Please take a minute or two to fill in the survey at www.etchinghamvillage.co.uk/survey

LENT LUNCHES: The Church will be hosting three Lent Lunches this year, the Lent Lunches will be a simple meal of soup and bread. Last year the lunches were held on people’s homes, this year they will be in the Parker Hall, Parsonage Croft on Tuesday February 23, Tuesday March 1 and Tuesday March 22, all starting at 12.30pm.

There is no charge for the lunch, but there will be donations to two chosen charities, Christian Aid and the International Nepal Fellowship. The situation in Nepal is dire, the Church would be happy to receive donations of woolly hats, scarves, blankets and warm clothes to pass on to them.

INCONSIDERATE PARKING: There was a recent incident near the High Street end of Church Lane where children on their way to school were put in danger because of dangerous/inconsiderate parking at that location. The Parish Council is aware of the situation and the problem will be on the agenda for the February meeting, Parish Council needs evidence of the problems to be able to progress this issue further, if you see cars parked dangerously in that location if you are able to get photographs please send them to the Parish Clerk, also if you witness any incidents or near misses please supply the Clerk with details of dates, times and what happened. The Parish Council is aware of other parking problems in the village, but for the time being the focus needs to be on the Church Lane situation, if that can be sorted then attention can be given to other areas in the village.
