CHRISTMAS ENTERTAINMENT: Christmas will come to Etchingham on December 13 with our annual extravaganza of music, drama and mince pies at 7pm in the church. “Etchingham Christmas Once More” will feature Christmas carols and music from the Etchingham Singers and the audience, a special Welsh item, and ‘Send for Saint Nicholas’ in which seasonal saints Lucy and Nicholas combine with King Charles II to overcome the miserable Puritans who want to ban Christmas and cancel the traditional Sussex Mummers Play in the new Village Hall! YOUNG PEOPLE REQUIRED: Because a couple of youngsters have had to drop out due to other commitments we still need a one or two more young people for the Christmas Play on December 13. In particular we urgently need a girl to wear the candle crown and lead the Santa Lucia procession (ability to sing desirable but not essential) and would also welcome one or two more – girls or boys to be village children. Since the parts are straightforward with just one or two lines to learn, getting to lots of rehearsals is not necessary providing they are available on December 13. REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE: The early morning rain last Sunday stopped just in time for the Remembrance Day Service at the War Memorial and afterwards in the Church. There was a large gathering for the service conducted by Reverend Iain Morrison. The service this Sunday is at 10.30am, services will then be held at 11am for the winter months. A reminder the Church is open daily 11am to 4pm.

VILLAGE BONFIRE AND FIREWORKS: The 2014 Etchingham fireworks started well with a great crowd gathering and eating their way through all the hot dogs, mulled wine and soup, in eager anticipation of the fantastic display which has become synonymous with the Etchingham fireworks. However, as the first rocket lit up the night sky, the heavens opened in retaliation and soaked the crowd for a minute or so, but fortunately did little to dampen spirits. The display lived up to expectations again and with the fantastic finale was a huge round of applause. As the crowd were slightly soggy many this year continued the evening’s entertainment in the Etchingham Sports and Social Club, with hot chilli, a few drinks and live music provided by the Logan Wilson Band. With everyone making merry they soon warmed up and dried out and it was generally agreed that this year had been one of the best yet! The Etchingham Improvements Committee would like to thank everyone who helped at this year’s event and all those who braved the weather to come and support.

CHRISTMAS PRIZE BINGO: Back by popular demand - Etchingham Under Five’s Playgroup presents a Christmas Prize Bingo Night, Friday November 28, 7.30pm in Etchingham Club. Bring your friends and family for an evening of festive fun in aid of your local Playgroup. Lots of prizes including tickets to Brighton Dogs, Kino Cinema tickets, Family Day Pass to Blackstock Farm, Christmas Hamper, Restaurant voucher and many more. Tickets £8, includes six game cards, available on the door.

MEET YOUR PCSO: Our PCSO is Iain Tomsett, he has regular ‘Meet in Person’ sessions for residents to meet up with him if they have matters to discuss, or just join him for a coffee and a chat. Iain holds the sessions, which last about half an hour, at the Bistro. The dates for the rest of the year are November 18, 9.30am; December 8, 9.30am and December 24, 9.30am. DIARY DATES: Saturday December 13, Christmas Concert in the Church.

INFORMATION: If you have given me details of your event to put in this column, please remember to send me some details after the event so I can let your supporters know how successful the event was, how much you raised, interesting facts etc. Your supporters will be interested to know how you did. Get information for this column to me as soon as possible, if you have a diary of events planned for the year let me have the dates and I will put in a list of village events for the year so that people can put the dates in their diaries. There are several ways to get your info to me, but email is preferred because there is less chance of errors during copying. I need information by 10pm on Monday to be sure it will be in time for inclusion, I can sometimes add extra items on Tuesday morning, but this cannot be guaranteed.
