Etchingham Flower and Dog Show

Fine weather greeted a good gathering of people to the annual Flower and Dog Show last Saturday. There were a lot of entries in the Dog Show which is always a popular event on the day. Flower Show entries were a bit down on previous years, possibly a combination of the growing year and the show being held a week earlier than in previous years, with some people who may have entered still away on holiday, however all the entries were up to the usual high standard.

At the end of the afternoon the twelve cups and trophies were awarded to the deserving winners. The British Legion Cup, awarded to the exhibitor obtaining the most points in the vegetable, flower and fruit classes, Bobby Baldock. The Whins Trophy for the most points in the Flower Arrangement classes was awarded to Sue Mumford. The Wishdown Cup for the best exhibit in the vegetable and flower classes went to Jo Smith. The Warren Trophy, awarded to the best entry in the children’s section was won by Bobby Baldock. The Chandler Cup for the best entry in the cookery class of the children’s section was won by William Ashenden. The Improvements Committee Cup is awarded for the most points in the domestic section, this year won by Linda Neve. The St. Jude Trophy is awarded to the best exhibit in the handicraft section, Phillipa Hinde. The Brookside Trophy for the best exhibit in the photography section was awarded to Phillip Hinde. The Butler Cup for the best flower arrangement in show was awarded to Linda Neve. The Driver Cup for the heaviest marrow goes to Barbara Thomas. The Macdonald Shield is awarded to the grower of the best gladioli in show, this year won by Geoprge Baldock. The Silver Tray is awarded to the dog with the most points in the dog show, won by Susan Martin with Marco. The full list of results will appear in the next issue of the Parish Magazine.

Many thanks to everyone who put in a lot of effort setting up, putting in time on the day and clearing up afterwards, too many to mention all individually but you will all know who you are. many thanks for your efforts without which the day would not be such a success.

A lot of people visited the display of old photos and postcards in the Church during the Flower Show on Saturday, some people said they would like more time to look at all the items.

I will be leaving the display in the Church for at least the middle of next week, so you can go in and spend as much time as you want looking at the pictures. The Church is open daily 11am to 4pm.

Also on display are the group photos taken at the Jubilee Picnic last year, you can order 12” x 8” copies of the pictures, I need to receive your order by Sunday afternoon (September 8) as I will be getting the photos printed the following week. Payment with your order would be appreciated if possible, but if you want to email your order I can collect payment when I deliver the prints, there are three different pictures so please make sure you correctly identify the picture(s) you want.

One last thing, I am working on an idea for a similar display during the Fete next year, the theme is probably going to be School related, so expect me to be contacting you over the winter months for loan of your photos and memorabilia.

Get information for this column to me as soon as possible, if you have a diary of events planned for the year let me have the dates and I will put in a list of village events for the year so that people can put the dates in their diaries. There are several ways to get your info to me, but email is preferred because there is less chance of errors during copying. I need information by 10pm on Monday to be sure it will be in time for inclusion, I can sometimes add extra items on Tuesday morning, but this cannot be guaranteed. Just a little reminder, I get plenty of information about events that are taking place, but I get very little follow up information, after your event try and remember to send me brief account of how successful your event was, it can be as simple as a thank you to those that attended and how much money was raised etc. You can deliver to 2 Park Farm Close, telephone 01580 819532 or 07941 786244 or email [email protected] .
