Ewhurst Green, Cripps Corner and Staplecross village voice

This is always a popular event for punters far and wide and anyone with goods to donate may do so in the morning, or should you need assistance then ring 830704, or 830570. There is always a need for funding village halls, and Staplecross is no exception. It is now looking very smart as the floor has recently had a “makeover”.

It is Battle of Britain Sunday and there will be the usual 9.30am service of Holy Communion at St James Church Ewhurst Green.

isitors and members of Ewhurst, Staplecross and Bodiam Garden Society gathered in the village hall on Saturday for the annual Flower, Fruit and Vegetable Show. The quality of the exhibits was amazing bearing in mind the vagaries of the weather this year. Keith Bishop a member who comes from Rochester (because this is the best Garden Society!) carried off several prizes. Not only did his talents show in the vegetable classes but he cleared the board with his entries of bread, gingerbread, scones, marmalade, chutney and trifle.

The newest cup in memory of Norma Stringer who contributed so much to the Society was awarded to Pam Underhill.

Ewhurst Parish Council Allotments working group met at a field in Lordine Lane on Saturday morning when those interested in having an allotment went along. Suitable land for the venture has been sought for the past three years. A local landowner has now offered land, which means the scheme could be underway in the near future. The Luncheon Club takes place at Staplecross village hall at 1230pm on Wednesday (19th). Anyone wishing to join and have a delicious hot meal cooked on the premises should first contact Anka Buss 830260 or Dennis 830816. The meal costs £5 per head and the club is open to anyone living in the parish who is 50+.

Macmillan Cancer Support holds its annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, where people all over make a conscious effort to hold/attend a coffee morning with funds going to this cancer charity. This year again, because of increase in numbers in recent years, will take place in Staplecross village hall on Friday September 28 between 10am and 12 noon.

This evening (Friday) at 7.30pm in the village hall, members of local amateur drama group, SCATS, is meeting to prepare for the annual panto in January and welcomes anyone interested in joining this happy band, whether in front, on, or back stage to go along this evening.

Hilary Ganly is holding a One Day Workshop next Saturday (September 22) at the Church Room (at the rear of St Mark’s church) Northiam Road, Staplecross.
