EXCLUSIVE: Cabinet member says he could rebel over 2,500 homes plan

Andrew Baldwin (Con, Holbrook East), Horsham District Council’s cabinet member for the environment, emailed a constituent tand said: “I can assure you I will not vote for any proposal for development north of the A264.”

Mr Baldwin is the first cabinet member to publicly break ranks over HDC’s preferred housing strategy.

In tomorrow’s paper, published one day before the end of the public consultation, Mr Baldwin further explains his stance, and says he opposes housing being built on greenfields north of the A264 by-pass.

There are already six other Conservative district councillors publicly opposing HDC’s preferred housing strategy.

Meanwhile, criticism of a major development in Kent held up by the company behind the North Horsham proposals as an example of its best practice and place-making ability has come to light, leading campaigners to say ‘our worst fears have become reality’.
