Explorer Scout Leader Peter Betts said he was extremely thankful to the Lions for their generous donation.

“We are absolutely over the moon,” he said. “Hopefully this will cement a fantastic relationship for a long time to come.”

The Barracuda Explorers is a mixed scout group for 14 to 18-year-olds which has been running for almost five years and has 34 members.

The Barracudas have several expeditions planned for next year for members doing their Duke of Edinburgh awards.

Three gold-award groups will go to Wales, Scotland and Dartmoor on expeditions, while silver and bronze-award groups will go to locations in Sussex.

The Presentation was made by Lion President Yvonne Prosser and was supported by Lion Tony Redhead, the welfare officer, Tony Williamson and Kevin Norris.

The Barracudas have already started to repay the favour and will continue to do so by helping out with the Lions’ collections this year in Lancing and Sompting during the run-up to Christmas.

The fundraisng will count towards the volunteering part of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.
