Fairlight seniors enjoy anEaster celebration at hall

MOPPS would like to say a big thank you to local man Kit McClean for providing a free lunch for everyone who attended.

Entertainment was provided by Brian Howard on keyboard and volunteer Jim Saphin who sang songs.

Prizes were awarded for the best Easter bonnet contest and an enjoyable time was had by all who attended.

Marsham Older People’s Project (MOPPS) was set up six years ago to meet a growing need in the village and since then it has gone from strength to strength.

The project plays a vital role in helping to address loneliness and isolation in Fairlight and the surrounding area by providing a meeting place, lunch and activities for senior people at Fairlight Village Hall every Friday.

The project also holds special events which have included an Old Tyme Music Hall, 1940’s nostalgia, sing-alongs and a regular Christmas party event.

The project is made possible by local volunteers who give up their time and support from local businesses and individuals who donate wine and drinks for meals or raffle prizes.

Sylvia Gutsell, who helped set up the project six years ago, said: “There is a big demand for the service and it has grown like topsy since we set it up.

“It has made a big difference to the lives of many people.

“The day centre creates a lot of laughter and happiness and that is what is all about and makes it so worthwhile.”
