EASTER ART EXHIBITION: The Rev Dr Geoff Lake gave a most interesting talk on Sunday on Art over the centuries showing various artists interpretations of Pentecost. Attending the meeting were artists who hope to show their paintings in the exhibition which will be held in St Laurence Church at Easter time, and hopefully they were inspired by the talk. The exhibition will be organised by Susan Barnes, who I am sure, will be writing more about this event in the near future.

FOOTBRIDGE WORKS: Barriers have been put in place on the slip road to South Falmer and the bus stop for the 28/29 from Lewes has now been blocked. £1.3 million is a great deal of money for a new ramp to a bus stop, I appreciate the bridge itself will be renovated to make it safe for another 50 years but ……

FALMER STATION: I see from the Sussex Express that the ticket office for Falmer Station is under threat of closure after quote ‘passengers are educated’ to acquire tickets from machines or the internet. If this goes ahead it will be a sad day, the ticket office staff there have always been so helpful.

CONCERT: Falmer Concert on Saturday February 20, 5.30pm to 6.15pm. A star quality recital of international performers Yvonne Patrick soprano, Robert Chavner counter-tenor and John Bruzon piano will take us on a musical journey featuring the music of Purcell, Handel, Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Balfe, Offenbach, Boulblil and Schoenberg and A Lloyd-Webber. It will be a feast of excellence, admission is free with a retiring collection.

ELEPHANTS: I have just spoken to my sister who has returned from a holiday in Sri-Lanka with her husband, son and his partner, she enjoyed the trip but half way through they had to modify their plans after her son, on alighting from an elephant after a ride, was suddenly gripped by the trunk of the elephant and pulled to the ground hitting his head and breaking his leg and toes. It must have been alarming for them, at least his wounds will be healed, but I also feel sad for the elephant having to parade with tourists, and then shackled with chains, they are wonderful creatures that should be free.
