Farmland site near A259 by Angmering and Rustington earmarked for new shops/cars complex

PLANS for a new car showroom/workshop complex and two separate retail units on land south of the A259 on the Angmering/Rustington boundary have been submitted to Arun District Council.

Store Property Investments Ltd, which owns most of Rustington shopping centre, is putting forward the proposals to avoid the threat from a larger retail development at the site which had already been mooted.

Chandlers wants to move its BMW/Mini dealerships from Angmering and Rustington to the site.

The latest list of Arun planning applications in the Gazette area includes:

ANGMERING: outline application, with all matters reserved apart from access and landscaping, for up to 3,365 sq m A1 retail use (including parking) and full application for 3,947 sq m car showroom, workshops, MoT facility, car valeting and car storage (including ancillary facilities, landscaping and parking), all with new access from A259, land south of A259 and west of Mill Lane, Rustington. The combined application is a departure from the development plan and is also in Rustington parish.

ARUNDEL: change of use from office to single four-bedroom residential unit (this application affects the character and appearance of the Arundel conservation area), 19 River Road.

BARNHAM: approval of reserved matters following outline approval BN/27/09 to demolish all existing structures and redevelop with 86 homes, plus open space, landscaping and access improvements, Angel’s Nursery, Yapton Road.

EAST PRESTON: retain new front wall and gate in lieu of previously removed 3m high hedge and drive gates, 50 Angmering Lane.

LITTLEHAMPTON: demolition of original dairy distribution depot and construction of 11 dwellings and ancillary works (this application affects the character and appearance of the Littlehampton (East Street) conservation area), The Old Dairy, rear of 3 and 5 Church Street.

Retain rear extension (re-submission following LU/111/13/) 19 North Ham Road.

Demolish single-storey pantry to north elevation and build kitchen extension (re-submission following LU/240/13/), Toddington House, Toddington Lane. Also, listed building consent application for same (re-submission following LU/241/13/L),
