With stalls, singing and late night shopping, the celebration was a hive of activity last Tuesday as families gathered together to start the festive season.

A spokeswoman for Lindfield Parish Council, which organises the event, said: “It went very well. It was a bit chilly but we had a really good turnout.

“Father Christmas met about 200 children. The grotto was in the United Reformed Church. Blackthorn Primary School singers also sang at the church.

“There were lots of stalls selling Christmas decorations and handmade crafts, some of the shops opened later.”

Residents were supporting local charities and Mid Downs Radio was also broadcasting from the festivities.
