Fears for toddler's health as mould covers bedroom curtain at his Cocking home

The huge condensation problem at the brand new house has left curtains covered in mould and bath towels have to be placed on the window sill to stop puddles gathering.

They fear the spores from the mould could pose a health hazard to their son.

“It’s a worry and it’s very stressful,” said Simon Marks at his Cherry Close home. “I feel as if I am banging my head against a brick wall.”

He and his partner waited some four years for their new home, part of the controversial Croft redevelopment.

“We were ecstatic when we moved in to what we thought was our dream home a month before our son was born,” he said.

“We didn’t get any problems until the winter and then the change was so terrible I can’t even explain how awful it was. The water pours down the window.”

But countless phone calls later the water is still pouring down: “I get fobbed off left right and centre and passed from one person to another. People have looked at it with conflicting ideas on the cause but nothing has been done.”

Ryan Collymore, head of responsive repairs said: “An initial investigation by our engineer was followed by inspection of gutters and the roof of the property. We carried out works to a gap around the window frame and improving insulation. We also treated the walls to address the mould spores. We hope that this will finally address the problem. We appreciate Mr Mark’s concerns and would like to assure him that we are committed to working with him to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

“Identifying the cause of damp and mould in any building can be challenging because often there can be a number of contributory factors. Also for this reason there is never a quick solution and a combination of measures need to be taken. We are committed to exploring every possible solution and committed to work with our resident to address the situation.”
