Feeding Lewes in the future

MORE than 60 people spent Saturday thinking about how Lewes will feed itself in the future.

The event at the Market Lane Garage was hosted by Transition Town Lewes (TTL) - the group considering the future of the town after the world's oil supply has peaked.

A spokesman for TTL said: 'Some fascinating information came from the creative occasion, such as a rough idea from one farmer of how much land it would take to feed Lewes (far less than expected) and the fact that we could have an incredibly diverse and healthy diet, if well planned.

'There were wide ranging discussions, from peeing on compost heaps to bringing in tea on clipper ships.'

The group's next open space event is on June 2 and will look at housing: living in Lewes on less energy.
