Felpham pupils head for capital to see their art reproductions

Pupils from a Felpham school are travelling to London to see their paintings alongside the works of some of the world's great artists.

About 150 children at Bishop Tufnell Infant School will be making the journey to the National Gallery to visit its Take One Picture exhibition.

The five and six-year-olds had taken part in the gallery's scheme based around the display in which they were inspired by Jan Molenaer's painting Two Boys and a Girl.

Painted in 1629, it features three children playing a variety of musical instruments, some of which they made.

The breadth of their artwork filled the school's hall for an exhibition late last year. As well as reproductions of the famous work, it included birdcages, clay tiles, lace patterns and felt creations.

The quality of the creations led to the school's selection by the gallery's experts to take part in the national exhibition at the leading venue from April 30 to July 1.

Just seven schools have had their work chosen out of the 43,000 children and adults across the UK who took part in the project.

Their resulting work includes painting, model chairs, sculptures, musical instruments, hats and animated short films.
