FESTIVAL FOR BEER LOVERS

A LEWES public house is ushering in the New Year with a three-week beer festival, featuring locally brewed real ales, beers from the smaller national breweries and favourites from north of the border.

Black Horse landlady Jo Bowell said the first week of the festival, starting today (8th) would showcase 'Jo's Wish-list', chosen from Itchen Valley, Brewsters, Highgate, Jennings, Ringwood, Timothy Taylor, Adnams, Palmer and Archers '“ subject to availability.

Ben Paley and Tab Hunter (traditional fiddle and guitar) will kick off the festival at the Western Road pub on Monday evening; and also play a Scottish selection on January 25 (Burns Night).

The second week will feature small and micro-breweries from Sussex and Kent.

A Scottish Week will round off the beerfest. On Burns Night haggis, neeps and tatties will be served.

The regular Black Horse quiz will be held on January 20 and the festival ends on January 31.

Said Jo: 'Some beers may vary, owing to distribution factors, but I hope to combat the January doldrums by providing a feast for real ale drinkers.'
