Festival for budding musicians returns

A festival for young people is back next month.

The 2008 Soundwave programme is jam-packed full of workshops and events for budding musicians in half-term.

The Soundwave 2008 festival kicks off with live music by young local bands at Newhaven Fort on Saturday, February 16.

Other events include Urban Dayz, a mixture of Dance, Music and Urban Sport, plus a full day of workshops, radio and gigs in Ringmer village on Saturday, February 23.

If making music is more your thing, then Soundwave 2008 is offering a week of music workshops at various venues throughout the district.

Fancy creating the next Dr Who soundtrack? Then try the Space Age Sound Effects DVD workshop at Lewes Castle.

Are you influenced by the likes of Stomp? Then why not try the Moving Sounds Phat Funky Journey at Lewes YMCA '“ scheduled for broadcast live on 87.8fm.

Soundwave will be on the radio at 87.8 fm from February 22 to 24. Hosted by young and local presenters, there will be the newest sounds and the most topical sensations brought to you by the best young DJ's, plus very special guests.

Tune in to hear cutting edge beatboxing and competitions, you may also be in with a chance of winning a recording deal or an electric guitar.

Soundwave recognises that the internet is increasingly important when distributing and promoting new music and sound. This year, for the first time, Soundwave 2008 is launching a new web based radio station for young people which will continue throughout the year and become a permanent venture.

Based at Lewes YMCA, this will enable young people in Lewes district to be a part of radio online.
