Fire breaks out at recycling centre near Eastbourne

A fire has broken out at a recycling centre near Eastbourne this evening (Thursday, July 20).

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) said crews were called to a fire in Eastbourne Road, Westham at 5.10pm.

Firefighters from Eastbourne, Pevensey, Bexhill, Hailsham, Seaford, Bohemia Road and Battle attended the incident and used breathing apparatus, four main jets, four thermal imaging cameras and two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze.

There were no casualties as a result of the fire and crews left the scene at around 7.45pm, according to ESFRS.

According to reports on social media, the fire has broken out at an recycling centre.

People were being urged to avoid the area and keep all windows and doors shut.
