Fire service cuts on council's agenda

Front-line fire and rescue services across the county are in danger of being axed due to drastic spending cuts.

Less than two years after efficiency savings saw firefighters made redundant and stations close, West Sussex County Council is demanding further savings due to a reduction in the grant from the government combined with a freeze on council tax increases.

Mick Cambers the Fire Brigades Union chairman for West Sussex, said: “Cuts on this scale will increase the times that firefighters take to attend emergency incidents and this will endanger members of the public.
