Fire service seeks Littlehampton community volunteers

WEST Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is recruiting volunteers to help support the delivery of home fire safety in Littlehampton.

A new pilot Community Volunteer Scheme is being launched this autumn to support the service’s flagship home fire safety check campaign.

The role will involve delivering fire safety leaflets to households in the Littlehampton area and carrying out follow up visits to speak to residents in person and offer those eligible a home fire safety check.

The Community Volunteer scheme is open to anyone over the age of 16 who can commit to a minimum of eight hours volunteering each month.

Full training for the role will be given.

Volunteer manager, Emma Francis, said: “This is a great opportunity for people with good communication and interpersonal skills to get involved in delivering a potentially life-saving service.

“The volunteers will be working as part of a friendly, dedicated team and have the chance to gain new skills and knowledge.

“This is the first time we’ve ever recruited volunteers from the community to help us carry out home fire safety.

“Initially, the scheme will be run as a six month pilot but if it is successful we will extend it right across the county and volunteers will be supporting fire service staff in a broader range of community safety activities.”
