A fishing boat has been rescued off the coast of Littlehampton by the RNLI.

The volunteer crew of the RNLI's Littlehampton lifeboat station was called out by HM Coastguard at 2.41pm on Sunday afternoon (July 19) to the 16ft fishing boat, which was eight miles southwest of Littlehampton Harbour.

The Renee Sherman lifeboat took around 20 minutes to arrive at the scene.

The fishing boat, which had four people on board, had suffered from engine failure and was safely towed by Littlehampton RNLI back to Littlehampton Marina.

Nick White, Littlehampton RNLI lifeboat station’s lifeboat operations manager, said: "Mechanical failure accounts for nearly 20 per cent of the RNLI’s lifeboat launches.

"On this occasion, the casualties did everything right, but knowing your boat, carrying spares and being able to fit them could make the difference between having to call for help and being able to help yourself.”
