Flash flood alert as Met Office issues yellow severe weather warning

Much of the south east is expected to received heavy rain this afternoon, with the Met Office warning drivers to watch out for flash flooding.

Rainfall of up to 40mm - nearly half of the usual rainfall for the entire month of November - has been predicted.

The Met Office has issued a yellow severe weather warning, stating: “A spell of heavy rain is expected to affect parts of southern England during Friday and early Saturday.

“The public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding.”

A low pressure zone, currently forming over the Atlantic, is expected to drift close to southern England this afternoon, bringing the expected rain with it. Winds of up to 50mph are also predicted in coastal areas.
