FLETCHING BONFIRE SOCIETY: Fashion Show tonight, Friday, Fletching Village Hall, doors open at 7pm. Tickets £5 to include a glass of wine and nibbles. For further information please contact Yvonne Thomas 01825 723275.

BINGO: Fletching Bonfire Society Bingo tomorrow, Saturday, at 7.30pm.

PARISH COUNCIL: The parish council meets on Monday at 7pm in the church.

CHROMATICS CHOIR: The choir meet on Monday at 7.45pm.

ART GROUP: The art group meets on Wednesday at 1pm.

MARTIAL ARTS: Kobudo Martial Arts meet on Thursday at 5pm.

YOUTH CLUB: Meets on Friday December 9 at 7pm.

STREET CLEANING NOTICE: Street cleaning will take place on Tuesday at the following

locations: Church Street from Pump House to junction of Mill Lane; Mill Lane junction of High Street to national speed limit sign; High Street from junction of Mill Lane to Atheralls Farm; Cherry Cottages from junction of High Street to far end of village hall car park. The parish council politely requests that residents remove their vehicles from these locations on Tuesday. This will enable our contractor to be as thorough as possible. If weather conditions are not suitable then we may need to change the date, we will try to keep you updated. Residents are welcome to park at Atheralls Farm on that day, although please do not park in front of the garages.

BONFIRE SOCIETY CELEBRATIONS: What a fantastic night we had. The weather was great, we were joined by 12 visiting societies and three bands, and there was a great bonfire atmosphere. The evening went very well and I hope that everybody had a good time. The Fire Cracker did a wonderful job providing great burgers and sausages, the bonfire members worked very hard to ensure that everything went well from the torches, procession and the poppies at the memorial and not forgetting the magnificent fireworks done by Peter Roe and Ashdown Fireworks.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who provided cakes and sandwiches, everybody who bought a programme and especially everyone who came along and supported us and gave so generously at the Firework Field. We are also grateful to those who came and helped us clear up on the Sunday morning especially those that swept the streets and the new faces that came up to the firework field to help us clear up. We have a very small core of people without whom it would not happen and the officers and committee put in many, many hours of preparation and work before & on the night to make it so successful. We now have to look to future fund-raising and just to confirm that we have a Fashion Show in the Village Hall today, Friday, and Bingo tomorrow, Saturday. 100 YEARS AGO: Sussex Express 8 December 1916. Licensing. A theatrical licence was granted for the production of a play in the Fletching Schools, in aid of the Prisoners of War Fund, on January 1, 2, and 3. The license of the Star Inn, Piltdown, was temporarily transferred from William Morley to Albert Edward Marchant.
