Flood alerts

Official flood warnings remained in place today (Wednesday, February 11) for areas around Bersted, Felpham and Shripney and Eastergate.

Hundreds of homes were in roads affected by the Environment Agency alerts.

They comprised a third of the entire number of warnings for its southern region.

The warnings were issued yesterday (Tuesday) morning and because of the swollen state of many rifes in the Bognor Regis area.

Included in the warnings were:

Bersted '“ the Elbridge and Aldingbourne Rifes, including Riverside Caravan Centre, Durban Road industrial estate and Sunningdale Gardens;

Shripney Manor Ditch at Shripney, including Shripney Road, Shripney Lane and Lidsey Rife at Eastergate; and

Aldingbourne and Lidsey Rifes at Felpham, including the A259, Links Avenue and the Arun Leisure Centre recreation ground.

But the Aldingbourne and Barnham rifes '“ covering Elbridge, Lidsey, Aldingbourne, Barnham, Yapton and Ryebank rifes, were downgraded today (Wednesday, February 11) from a flood warning to a flood watch as the level of water there began to recede.
