Flood defence exhibitions

THE Environment Agency is hosting two public exhibitions in Shoreham to update local residents and members of the community on plans for the town’s tidal flood defence scheme.

The project team will present the final designs for the scheme. The Shoreham Adur Tidal Walls Scheme has been developed to reduce tidal flood risk to over 2,300 homes and 169 commercial properties by significantly improving the standard of existing tidal defences in the West Sussex town.

The scheme will reduce the risk of tidal flooding to Shoreham Beach, Shoreham town and eastern parts of Lancing. The Environment Agency is working in partnership with West Sussex County Council and Adur Council to design and build the £25million project.

The project team has finalised the design and the planning application will be submitted next month. In addition to contributions from partners, funding has also been received from the Coast to Capital local enterprise partnership which means that construction of the scheme can start in early 2016.

The exhibitions will be held from 4pm to 8pm on Tuesday, September 15, at Shoreham Sailing Club and Wednesday, September 16, at Adur Outdoor Activities Centre.

David Robinson, Environment Agency operations manager, said: “We understand that the local community might have questions about the scheme. Our recent exhibitions have been very well attended. Please come along and talk to the project team to find out more.”
