Flower club vice-chairwoman Ann Gray greeted people at the door and was clearly delighted at the response to the festival.

Among the 19 exhibits was one entitled Sea and Water, which looked just like an aquarium.

In stark contrast was the warm and autumnal Nature arrangement, using brambles and tree branches and fruit entwined round a church pillar.

Amid a surge of colour provided by a bouquet of crimson gerberas at the altar was a memorial display for those who lost their lives in the USA terror attacks last week.

The church was filled with the sound of choral music and a delicate floral aroma as people stopped to read a Bible left open at Psalm 48 and light a candle in remembrance.

Proceeds from Jubilate will be divided between the Snowdrop Trust, Arundel Hospital, St Nicholas Church restoration fund and MIND.
