Flower show offers feast of colour for Felpham and Middleton

A record number of entries turned Felpham and Middleton Horticultural Society's rose and sweet pea show into a feast of colour and scent.

Roses have loved this year's weather conditions, with the rain and warmth at just the right time.

Sweet peas have not been so happy. However, the exhibitors managed to do the flowers proud at last Saturday'sshow at St Mary's Centre.

The judges for all the classes took a great deal of time and trouble assessing the entries and checking the quality of the blooms before they awarded their verdicts.

The same applied to the other classes such as the selection and quality of leaves, the colour combination for other floral entries, pot plants and, of course, the vegetables.

The plant stall was well stocked with very reasonably priced plants as usual. The cake stall, raffle and other sales stalls, plus the refreshments, added to the attractions at St Mary's Centre.

The society's next show will be the flower and produce show at the centre on August 16. Classes will include dahlias and gladioli as well as other seasonal flowers, fruit and vegetables.

Other classes will feature home industries, arts and crafts, wines, photography and children's entries. The show is open to non-members.
