Food waste shock after county audit

MID Sussex residents are throwing away large amounts of food and latest research suggests it is costing them a packet.

The news has come at a time when it has been revealed nationally that the average UK household with children throws away 620 worth of food every year.

Mid Sussex District Council recently conducted a waste audit which showed on average nearly 30 per cent of residents' waste for landfill is discarded food.

Half of the households' waste surveyed contained food that was unopened and with many items still in date.

To help residents save money and reduce food waste, the council is launching a 'What a Waste' campaign.
