Football manager suspended following alleged assault

KEN McCreadie has been suspended as manager of Hailsham Town Football Club.

It follows an allegation that Mr McCreadie hit Eastbourne United AFC player Matt Jones after United won 2-1 against Hailsham on Boxing Day.

Last week police confirmed a man had been arrested for assault and bailed for six weeks pending further enquiries.

Now Jon Purdey and Ross Scamardella have been installed as caretaker managers at the club.

A spokesman for Hailsham Town Football Club said: 'Hailsham Town Football Club not only continues to conduct internal inquiries but will offer total co-operation with the investigations being undertaken by Sussex Police and the Sussex County FA.

'In the meantime, and so as not to prejudice these investigations, no player or official from the club will be commenting further regarding the matter.'

The Sussex FA now has 28 days to look at the evidence.

It will then arrange a hearing about the alleged incident.
