Ford Capri is star prize in Littlehampton Movember draw

He is offering his 1980s Ford Capri as the star prize in a draw for the Movember campaign, run by the charity Prostate Cancer.

He wants to recruit 200 men to join him and grow a moustache during the month of November and each one of them will also be entered into the car draw.

Ian was moved to get behind the Movember campaign after a close friend’s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

And in one of those remarkable coincidences, the day he made his mind up to grow his “mo”, he stumbled across the Capri, for sale on eBay and with its own special link to the cause.

The Ford had been used by after-shave brand Old Spice to relaunch one of its fragrances last year and, at the same time, help to promote Movember.

“I knew I just had to have it,” he said.

“It is black underneath but still has the Old Spice vinyls on it, although the Movember signs had been taken off, so I had to get them printed up specially again.”

Ian, who is sales manager for Middleton Fiat, has had backing from his employers in getting the car fully road-ready again for the draw.

It is being featured in the October edition of the Capri owners’ magazine.

Ian wants to recruit 200 men willing to start November with a clean shave and not use a razor on their upper lip again until December arrives.

Movember has become a popular movement across the UK and further afield and Ian hopes Littlehampton will now catch the buzz and grow the fuzz.

“I want to launch Team Little’MO’hampton and get the town involved,” he said.

As an incentive, there will be a party on November 26, with live music, a DJ and bar at a venue to be arranged.

Ian, 35, moved to Kent Road, Littlehampton, a year ago.

“Women have done so well raising awareness of the cancers affecting them, but there is still some way to go with men and the ones affecting men, which makes Movember such an important thing to get involved in,” he said.
