FORD ECO-TOWN: Government told of eco-town opposition

A strong response against the eco-town plan for Ford has been sent by Yapton parish councillors to the government.

Housing minister Caroline Flint was told the parish council members were totally opposed to the scheme.

Councillors based their view on a discussion paper prepared by planning committee chairman Cllr Andy Faulkner for the latest council meeting.

This identified the main concerns such as a loss of good agricultural land for housing, increased gridlock on roads around the village and the complete loss of the identities of the historic and rural villages of Climping, Ford and Yapton.

All will be engulfed by the proposed town's housing and industrial development.

Some 40 members of the public attended the meeting. Representatives from the Campaign Against Ford Eco-Town group and several local residents spoke about the scheme.
