FORD ECO-TOWN: Minister ready to answer readers' questions

Observer readers have been invited to tell a member of the government what they think about the Ford eco-town plans.

Housing minister Iain Wright is willing to answer readers' questions about the controversial scheme for some 5,000 homes. It has constantly been in the news for the past 18 months.

Mr Wright has offered to get the facts direct to residents who live around the proposed site at Ford Airfield through a question and answer session in the Observer.

A spokesman for Mr Wright said: "Eco-towns give us a unique opportunity to tackle two of the greatest challenges facing the country '“ the pressing need to confront climate change, and to deliver more affordable housing.

"No decisions have been taken about which proposals will go forward and we must get the locations for these eco-towns right.

"We want to give everyone the opportunity to have their say, including through the current round of consultation.

"We also want to give people this further opportunity to put their questions to the government."

Here's how to take part in the Q and A with Mr Wright.

Submit your question, either by e-mail or post, about the Ford eco-town idea by February 25.

The e-mail address is: [email protected] (please put eco-town in the subject field) and the postal address is: Bognor Regis Observer, 14 Station Road, Bognor Regis PO21 1QE.

We will then forward your questions to Mr Wright, who has promised to answer them within a week.

Only one question will be allowed for each reader to enable as many people as possible to take part.

If different questions about the same issue are received, one is likely to be chosen as a representative view.

We will aim to print as many Q and As in the Observer on March 5 as space permits.

The paper's website could also be used to ensure as much publicity as possible to Mr Wright's replies.
